About St Henry's

St Henry’s Marist Brothers’ College was founded in Durban in 1929 when the Marist Brothers purchased an extensive property in upper Glenwood.  Since those early days the School has grown in size and numerous additions have been made to the original buildings.

Since its formation, St Henry’s has carried the values, ideals, and principles of its founding Brothers:

“The Marist school, as envisaged by Father Champagnat, offers families an approach to education which draws faith, culture and life into harmony.  It is an approach which stresses the values of self-forgetfulness and openness to others, which presents culture as a way of drawing people together, and proposes knowledge as a duty of service.  Our schools, which are open to any family that accepts our educational approach, encourages dialogue between persons of different cultures and different beliefs.”
(from the Marist Brothers’ Constitutions)

St Henry’s is managed by the College Principal, assisted by a Management Team and over 40 highly qualified academic staff, as well as administrative staff.  The college is divided into 3 Phases: The Senior Phase (Grades 8 -12), the Intermediate Phase (Grades 4 -7) and the Foundation Phase (Pre-School to Grade 3).
