Hockey is thriving at St Henry's with the Senior Girls' Field and Indoor having notched up victories in every match they played during the season. South SAfrican player, Cindy Botha, joined the girls for a practice and gave them an inspirational talk. One of the girls, Jenna Baronet, was selected for the U14 Umlazi District Team and played in the Joy Watt Tournament.

Intermediate Phase
St Henry’s Marist Brothers College Hockey Tour 2009
Fourteen excited girls sat anxiously on the crowded bus, chatting about the possibilities that this hockey tour held for them. Our journey to becoming a true team had started.
On the 28th June 2009 the first team hockey girls left for Margate on the first hockey tour in St Henry's’ history. Sporting new tracksuits kindly sponsored by Mr and Mrs Patel and brand new dresses, we looked like a team to be reckoned with. We were accommodated at Gracelands Lodge in Ramsgate. We couldn’t have asked for any better - we slept well and the food was tasty.
The training sessions we had from well-known coaches were very gruelling, yet informative and beneficial to each and every one of us in a different way. The skills we learnt will remain with us until the end of our hockey careers. Our matches were challenging and really tested our new skills and ability to work together as a team. The time we spent together allowed for us to truly bond and connect as a team. Fun was had by everyone both on and off the field of play.
The results were as follows:
Vs Creston College – lost 4-2
Vs Port Shepstone Club (ladies 1st) – Lost 4-1
Vs Port Shepstone high school – won 2-0
We would like to thank Ms Greyling for making this experience possible and to Mrs Van Rensburg for believing in us
.
Good luck to all the future hockey players of St Henry’s and remember to make the most of every opportunity.

Hockey Report for the IP 2009
Our hockey girls were most fortunate to be invited to Queensmead to watch the Spar International Women’s Hockey tournament, this year. The Australian and South African hockey players were willingly signing autographs for all our girls and a great day was had by all with special memories provided by friendly international players.
Mrs Moran and Mr Keith Hosken led our Under 12 and Under 13 teams to numerous victories in their Thursday tournaments at Dokkies. We were very proud of our representative players who were invited to play in the Durban South hockey trials. Congratulations to Yasmin McCready, Kendal Gorlei, Megan Brown, Gemma Van As and Lauren Askew. Yasmin and Kendal were successful to be selected for he Durban Squad and both girls were invited to attend the KZN trials. Congratulations girls, we are so proud of you!
Miss Fontana and Mrs Whiting, with the help of the Hosken coaches enjoyed watching the Under 10 and Under 11 teams rise to the challenges of strong opposition at the Thursday hockey tournaments. Many budding hockey players have been identified already at this young age and we all look forward to another successful season of spirited, fun-filled, hard hockey, in 2010.
A season of tremendous team spirit, fun, excitement and maturity on and off the field was the name of the game this season. Well done girls, you really made us proud.
Mrs J. Whiting
