Choral singing is an established part of the school's life. Certainly the myth that teenage boys are not interested in choral singing has long since been laid to rest here and they join the female choristers in making beautiful music at St Henry’s.
Intermediate Phase Choir - 2009
The Intermediate Phase Choir had a slow start to the year due to some members having various commitments to other sports, and a host of public holidays on Fridays. We finished the year on a high as we were invited to sing with the prestigious Durban Men’s Choir at their concert. We were well received and performed very well. A few weeks later the choir sang at the School’s Prizegiving function at St Josephs’ Church , again very successfully. 2010 should be a more exciting year, with more planned performances with the Men’s Choir and other prospects. Thank you to all the singers for a wonderful year.
Junior Primary Choir
The Junior Primary pupils have been singing their hearts out this year as they have been learning new and interesting songs and dances. The Junior play, “Oh when the ants go marching in…” will be staged in August and the preparations have begun already.
Brand new instruments on their way and the music room will soon be filled with the sound of children singing, laughing and playing…
Choir
The Choir has started to bring together a lovely repertoire – we are looking towards a possible tour in the future and so far the choir’s sound is delightful. We have composed an original ‘Sancta Maria’ which the Choir performed at the College’s two awards ceremonies and were very well received by the audiences. We are at present practicing an African medley complete with maskande guitar and exhausting dance moves. Any visitors are very welcome to drop in to enjoy our rehearsal times with us (Thursdays from 2 – 3pm in the Marist Association Hall).
