Bridge Building
On the 30th of May two groups of St Henry’s pupils went to the yearly bridge building competition held at the Durban Exhibition Centre. The object of the competition is to place as many weights onto each bridge as possible before it breaks. One of the St Henry’s groups was nearly disqualified for not meeting the requirements. They made some adjustments to their bridge and then braced themselves for some tough competition. Group 1’s bridge held 350N or 35Kgs before snapping in half. Group 2’s entry managed a 90N or 9Kgs before breaking. The competitors learnt a lot from the competition and hope to use that knowledge in next year’s competition.

Her English counterpart, Marie Schulte-Bockums, has just spent time at St Henry’s in Durban, staying in Candice’s family’s home next to a game park, where she has seen wildlife close at hand. Marie has enjoyed getting a taste of the bush and traditional Zulu life at Simunye Lodge and seeing the Big 5 at Hluhluwe.
